Love loss

Love loss thins my blood until you are a crime best forgotten.
I can't think past these memories that crowd my mind,
Crowd out the voice of reason, the reasons I'm left behind.

There's never enough time to be the you you thought you'd be,
But, love, you've always known me.

Know me now, when the voice has been stolen from my lips.
Know that I count you as a loss that I feel like a knife upon my skin.

I'm not your firefly princess, and I'm not a bitter, lost girl with wild flowers in my hair.
I've shorn that life, cut it free so I could fly away.

But now and again, I return.

Return to lost nights curled in an empty bed.
To lies that I only tell myself.
To crimes best forgotten.
